A sci-fi Big Chill gone bad. A get-together of old college friends before one's wedding, with a self-exile, now inventor, returning with a party game--a machine that switches one's brain with another's body. Subsequently, the switchover causes old desires to resurface. Great premise. Terrible execution. Why? Two many bodies to keep up with the simultaneous changeovers. Trust me. I watched this twice, once with the subtitles, and was confused. This movie is very similar to the superior Bodies, Bodies, Bodies which has better actors, tighter screenplay and much more action.

Instead of eight people who engage in en masse switchovers, the confusion could have been alleviated by six characters. The cast consists of one film actor and TV actor (David William Thompson) and the others mostly TV actors. Brittany O' Grady is annoying as Shelby, who is in a 7 year sexless relationship with her boyfriend, Cyrus (James Morosini). Lack of experienced actors weakens this challenging screenplay.

Greg Jardin, short and music video director, wrote and directed this. The film was shot in 18 days and it shows. There is a build-up of tension but no release. Imagine switching your body with one of your friends and then interacting with another masquerader. The scenarios are endless. The tragic scene on the balcony is dull and lacks impact (no pun intended), in what seemed to be a cutting edge movie. The film is sorely lacking a cathartic scene.

The actors deliver their dialogue in turbo speed as if they want to spit the words out and be done. What amazes me more than the confusion of this movie are the positive critics ratings. Are we are so hard up on good movies that we have to lavish praise on subpar entries? I can't recommend this movie. Want an entertaining party-night-gone-bad thriller? Watch Bodies, Bodies, Bodies or Talk to Me.
